Transportation on Aruba
Public Busses- Arubus
The public transportation in Aruba is run by Arubus. The buses are a great way to see many beaches and different areas of the island for a good price. You can find the routes and schedule here. From the main station in Oranjestad, you can go to either end of the island. We used google maps to get around the island; you can see the bus stops by searching “Aruba Bus Stops” in Google Maps. All the stops are marked by a small transportation icon.
Purchasing Bus Passes
There are multiple options for purchasing tickets for the bus. You can pay for single trips or you can get a day pass for €10. Day passes are only sold at specific locations on the island. We purchased day passes at the Arubus Oranjestad Bus Station Booth. You can see the full list of locations on their website.
Rental Cars
Due to the location of our AirBnb we did not need to rent a car while we were in Aruba, the bus system was sufficient enough for our activities. However, if you want to experience the beaches in the south east near San Nicholas, I would recommend renting a car. The bus has one stop at a beach on the south east part of the island but for convenience a rental car would be best if you plan to beach hop.
Taxis
Most any hotel front desk will call you a taxi if you are looking to get around the island. We only used a taxi one time while on the island. We had planned to walk back home but we ended up staying out later than we thought and didn’t want to walk two miles back to our Airbnb. A nearby hotel called a cab for us and we had a great time chatting with the driver about life on the island and some of the local hot spots. You pay for the cab in the taxi after the ride and they do accept card.
Charter Busses
Party buses and charter buses offer transportation to day trips or are used as tour guide buses. For our day trip to De Palma Island the charter bus picked us up at a hotel that was near our AirBnb.
