MAANBES was founded by two Midwesterners with a dream of living abroad and seeing the world. Our journey started in March 2021 on 9th street in Kansas City, Missouri. We met over drinks and dinner at The Ship, a small restaurant in the West Bottoms. We connected immediately on our passion for travel and a desire to live a different life. A week later we started dating. Two months later, we took our first trip together to Miami Beach, Florida. That fall we moved in together and spent our winter holiday exploring Arkansas.

The spring of 2022 was our first international trip together. We met up with old friends and family and explored small towns across the Netherlands. Our bonus destination was Norway, a first for both of us. The entire trip was a glimpse of what life abroad could look like. The rest of the year we talked about moving abroad and what that could look like.

In December, we touched down in Aruba for a sunny winter holiday. As we turned our phones back on we received a life altering message, a job offer in the Netherlands. Moving abroad became the main topic of the holiday and it’s where we decided to make the jump. On January 1, 2023, we arrived back in the states. Then, in the span of one month, we packed up our life in Kansas City and said our goodbyes. We landed in the Netherlands on February 13, 2023.

We created MAANBES as a way to share our life and adventures around the globe with family, friends and anyone looking to plan their next holiday. Our mini guides offer insight to all the cities we have visited. They are a blend of city trips around Europe, long summer holidays to small islands and our favorite slow travel destinations. We hope you will find some inspiration here for your next getaway, near or far.
