Need to know tips for a holiday in Aruba
Best time to visit
The best part about planning a trip to Aruba, there is no bad time to visit the island. The Island is located just south of the hurricane belt in the caribbean. That means from June to November, you are safe to visit Aruba. The island may have some rougher waves during that time if there are storms going around in the north but no hurricanes will threaten your holiday. The dry season spans from December to April. This is also the most busy time of year for the island for tourism so you will be paying premium prices for accommodation, flights, and activities. Off-season begins in May and lasts through November. This is the best time to visit if you are looking for a more budget friendly holiday. While you may experience a few more rain showers during the off-season, storms typically blow over within an hour.
Pack Reef Safe Sunscreen
To protect the coral and natural environment you will want to bring reef safe sunscreen.
Do not take anything from the land or ocean (shells, coral, white sand, etc.) There are many signs at the airport warning passengers not to take any natural items from Aruba. If they find any shells, sand or rocks in your baggage they will confiscate them and you will pay a fine.
Currency Exchange
The official currency of Aruba is the Florian. Although you can exchange currency on the Island, it is not necessary as the American dollar and major credit cards are widely accepted throughout the island. If you pay with American dollars you may receive Florian in return. It is also good to know that the Florian has a fixed exchange rate for US dollars. The rate is Afl 1.77 cash and Afl 1.78 for travelers checks. If you are exchanging money in gas stations the rate is typically Afl 1.75, and supermarkets and restaurants rates are Afl 1.80.
