What is the DAFT Visa?
The Dutch American Friendship Treaty (DAFT) was signed into law on March 27, 1956. The agreement between the United States and the Netherlands allows American Entrepreneurs and Freelancers to acquire a Dutch residence permit for the purpose of starting a business in the Netherlands. Entrepreneurs can start a brick and mortar business selling products or services or you can work freelance or as a digital nomad.
The Visa requires an investment of 4.500 into the Dutch business bank account and the Entrepreneur must maintain that amount for the length of your Visa. Additionally, the Entrepreneur must register the business with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (the KVK) and submit an opening balance prepared by a Dutch bookkeeper with a BEACON number.
Spouses and children are allowed to join the entrepreneur. Spouses may work in the Dutch labor market without a visa or also start to work as an entrepreneur.
Upon approval, the Visa is valid for two years. At the end of two years the entrepreneur may reapply for an additional five years. At the end of five years living in the Netherlands you may apply for Dutch permanent residency.
